KENNEDY’S 18-19 MONTHLY TODDLER UPDATE

I am sharing Kennedy’s 18-19 monthly toddler update! I am sharing what our days usually look like now, her sleep schedule, food she likes, activities she does and much more!
SHOP THE POST:
My little angel girl is already 19 months old and I’m pretty sure she is now considered a toddler! I feel like 18 months was a big milestone month, and that flew by. Kennedy is growing and developing more and more each day. I wanted to share with you a little 18-19 month update and things she is doing and learning at this age.
My daily schedule with Kennedy varies by the day, but I am usually consistent with what we do. Every Monday and Wednesday I have an amazing babysitter that comes to watch Kennedy. During those two days, I am able to get all my blog work and emails done for the week. Having her come twice a week in the morning has literally been AMAZING!! I am SO much less stressed and am actually able to get things completed on time at a faster/efficient rate. Prior, I was staying up every night until 1-2am working on blog posts and answering emails, which was basically sucking the life out of me. I felt like everyday I was a zombie searching for the next opportunity to catch up on sleep. I also think it has been great to have Kennedy spend time with other people besides Alex and I. Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays we always do a fun activity in the morning such as her mommy and me gym class, going to the park, stroller walks around the lake, play dates with her cousins, playing with chalk outside, etc. I get to fully devote myself to Kennedy all the rest of the days and I’m not having to always check my phone or email when she is awake.
We have also started to dabble a little bit with potty training. If you saw in my IG stories a while back, we got Kennedy a “my size” potty. I have heard mixed reviews from parents about getting a separate potty, but so far we have been loving it. She actually uses it to go potty. She does 95% of her potties in the potty or the big toilet. When she has to go potty, she will point to it and say “pee pee,” where I will then have her go sit down on it and do her business. We don’t plan on fully tackling potty training and committing 100% until after her 2nd birthday at the end of September. But I am trying to get her accustomed to the toiled little by little so it is not so scary when we actually start the potty training. I am honestly just happy she is starting to grasp the whole process so far!
Kennedy is still taking one big nap in the afternoon and sleeping on average 12 hours each night. For her daytime nap, I put her down at 1pm and she usually will sleep until 3-4:00pm. I am so happy I transitioned her to one nap, because mama gets a break after running around with her all morning! She has been on a sleep schedule since she was an infant and now understands when it is nap time each day by falling right to sleep when I lay her down. You can read all about how I sleep trained her in this post I wrote last year!
One thing I have been working on with Kennedy is introducing her to words via flashcards. I do this by clearly showing her one flashcard at a time and allowing her to attempt repeating the word back to me. I always get lots of questions about which cards I have. The flashcards that Kennedy loves the most are (1) First Words, (2) Alphabet, (3) Numbers and (4) Colors and Shapes. Also, throughout the day (either at home or when out on the town) I point things out to her and have her try to say it back to me. Another item that Kennedy loves are these bath letters and numbers. I have been putting a few letters in the bath and asking where each letter is. I will say for example, “where is the C?” She will then pick up the letter and hand it to me! These have been really great physical tools in helping teach numbers and letters.
Kennedy is full of life, very active, has lots of energy and is overall a happy girl! I call her my sunshine baby because she is always has a smile on her face and is honestly the light of our lives! She is always running around, very curious and can never really sit still! haha She really only sits still for Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or her favorite Disney Movies. She LOVES all the Disney movies and characters just like her mama. I have taken her to Disneyland a couple times lately, and she loves the characters from afar, but is SO scared of them when she actually meets them in person. Hopefully she gets over this soon, because I almost waited 2 hours for her to meet Elsa.
She loves other kids and playing with her cousins. Right now she loves both mommy and daddy and always calls out for us whenever she is away from us. She loves going to the beach and is obsessed with water. From the pool, the ocean to fountains- she sequels when she sees them and always wants to jump in. Kennedy also loves horses and pony rides. She riding the ponies at the petting zoo and petting all the animals!
Kennedy still has a great appetite and will pretty much eat anything we give her. Her favorite foods right now are avocados, guacamole, rice, beans, chicken, steak, oranges, apples, grapes, popcorn, and cheese. She was teething about a week ago and wasn’t eating a lot. She is getting her canine teeth in now, so she wasn’t feeling so good. I see the top white part coming up now, so I’m hoping they come up fast!
New Words:
Kennedy has learned about 15-20 words! Her new favorite things to say is “I love you,” “oh shoot,” “and “pee pee” (when she wants to go to the bathroom on the potty). The past month she has been saying “Peeassseee!” for Please and “tank youu” for Thank You 🙂
Foods She is Loving:
Avocados, guacamole, rice, beans, chicken, steak, oranges, apples, grapes, popcorn, and cheese, and broccoli.
Sleep Schedule:
1 Nap a day- 2-3.5 hours
Goes to bed at 8pm wakes up at 9am
Activities She Enjoys:
She loves coloring and playing with sidewalk chalk outside. She also loves her trike, playing in her pretend kitchen, playing with her shovel and bucket at the beach or park, playing with her baby doll, running around with her cousins, picking flowers on walks with mommy, and she LOVES Trader Joe’s! For some reason when we go to Trader Joe’s she gets so happy and smiles and waves to everybody. She loves reaching back and handing our groceries to the cashier and watching them scan our food.
