I can’t believe this pregnancy is more than half-way done and we are getting so close to meeting our baby boy! This pregnancy has truly flown by so fast, must faster than with my first. It is also so different in a lot of ways compared to my pregnancy with my 2-year-old Kennedy. I have been more sick this pregnancy such as catching colds and the stomach flu, feeling nauseous, and just feeling overall more tired. But I might contribute some of that tiredness to being so busy all day with Kennedy and not getting any breaks like before! It also is so surreal that I’m having a little boy! I always dreamed and prayed to have a girl and a boy one day, so I feel so blessed that we get to experience one of each. It has been so fun getting boy clothes and starting to decorate his nursery. I am naturally drawn to the girl items because that’s all I know, but I’m learning more all about boy things 😉 We had our 20 Week Ultrasound Appt last week, so I will be sharing more about that and what you can expect!
I was surprisingly not as nervous with the 20 week ultrasound this time around, compared to when I had it with Kennedy. I think mainly because I knew what to expect and what they were checking for. But I still had some jitters like any parent would. But the ultrasound tech at my doctor’s office is really sweet and always puts my mind at ease.
The 20 week ultrasound (also called The Anatomy Scan) is the biggest and most important ultrasound you will have during pregnancy because this is where they check all the vital organs such as the brain, spine, stomach, kidneys, and heart. They want to make sure everything is developing normally and that there are no abnormalities. They counted his fingers and toes, and measured the length of his bones to make sure his growth was on track. He was 15 ounces at the 20 week ultrasound, and was measuring a little over a week early! Usually the average weight at 20 weeks is 10 ounces. He was curled up in a ball on his knees face down, and looked like he trying his best to curl up in a little ball! The tech had a hard time getting him to change positions, but thankfully he eventually did so she can get her measurements. It was so cute seeing him yawn and move around. It is still surreal that my precious little boy is inside my tummy right now. I was so grateful and happy that I got to see my baby again and that everything looked great. We feel so beyond blessed that so far everything is healthy. That is all we can hope for with our children!
Questions + Answers:
HOW FAR ALONG: 21 weeks
SIZE OF BABY: Coconut
DUE DATE: June 6th
NAME: We have a short list of favorite names we found, but still haven’t decided on one yet! We will probably pick one in the next couple months. We won’t be announcing his name until after he is born!
SICKNESS: I get nauseous mainly now if I don’t eat, in the evening or when I’m in the car. But thankfully that stage has mostly passed and I’m feeling much better in the 2nd Trimester!
CRAVINGS: Around 19-20 weeks, I started getting WAY more hungry than ever before, so I’m guessing baby boy was going through a growth spurt! I mentioned my diet in this blog post, but I try to keep track of all the food I eat in the app My Fitness Pal to make sure I’m getting the right amount of calories and protein for the baby. My doctor said during the 2nd Trimester I should bump my calorie intake to 300-400 more than what I was doing before, so it’s been helpful to know if I’m staying in that range. I have been craving the Lemon and Arugula Chicken Salad from Trader Joe’s, fruit, smoothies, chips and salsa, Pita Crackers with jalapeno + artichoke dip (from TJ’s as well). My biggest sweet cravings have been ice cream, Chick Fil A lemonade, and frozen chocolate chip cookies.
AVERSIONS: I haven’t had too many aversions lately! Mainly some textures of food I can’t eat. Also if chicken is cooked a certain way I don’t like it make me queasy. Also if my food is cold and not really hot, it makes me feel sick and not want to eat it. Go figure!
PHYSICAL CHANGES: I have noticed the past couple weeks more weight gain and my boobs are getting SO big! I was a small B before, so the change is really noticeable to me haha! But those are all things to be expected during pregnancy, so I’m trying to remind myself that everyday and not let it bother me.
MOST EXCITED ABOUT: Getting the nursery put together and getting everything prepared for his arrival! I have been adding some new baby items I need on my baby registry list through Baby List. I will be adding more things and doing some research on items such as double jogging strollers. I’ll have another post up soon on what newborn and baby products I’m getting!
EXERCISE: I love my ProForm Studio Bike which I can do in the comfort of my own home. I like to do that in the morning before Kennedy wakes up or I do my arm weights and floor workouts during her nap such as donkey kicks, squats, lunges, etc. In addition to switching off those two things, I also try to take long walks with Kennedy!
BIRTH PLAN: I’m probably not going to the hospital this time with any specific birth plan on how I want everything to go. Nothing ever really goes as planned, so I felt like it wasn’t even useful last time with Kennedy. Pretty much NOTHING went as planned with my last birth so I don’t want to have any high expectations this time of everything going 100% perfect. All I know is I plan on getting an epidural!
I’m sharing some of my recent favorite pregnancy product I have been loving lately! A lot of these products I used all throughout my 1st pregnancy and LOVED them then as well! Click any product above to shop!
1 // Forte Pre-Natal Vitamins- My Fav Pre-Natal Vitamin I’ve found! It has all the vitamins my baby and I needs! Each packets contains vitamins such as Folate, Choline, DHA, Fish Oil + a full day’s dose of Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Iron.
2 // Belly Bandit Maternity Leggings- comfiest maternity leggings and worth every penny! I wear these all the time now.
3 // Belli Face Cleanser- pregnancy safe face wash to help with breakouts and acne!
4 // Hydroflask- I drink a TON of water everyday!! I will drink about 4 or more everyday! I notice it has helped me keep my skin clear, gives me more energy, and is just great overall for you and your baby’s health.
5 // AG Jeans Maternity Jeans- These are definitely a splurge, but I think they are worth it. I wear mine almost everyday and have gotten a lot of use out of them already! They go with everything, are super flattering, comfortable, and have a slight stretch!
6 // Anthropologie Candle- I love lighting a candle in the evening to unwind and relax. It helps me sleep better and makes me home feel fresh again and like I’m in a spa!
7 // UGG Slippers- I love these slippers because they give my feet support and are so comfy. I’m ALL about comfort during pregnancy, and these are the best! Also I get cold easily so these help keep my toes warm 🙂
8 // Mama Mio Tummy Rub Butter- I cant say enough great things about this tummy butter. I used it with Kennedy and loved it then! The smell reminds me of my pregnancy with Kennedy, so maybe that’s also why I love it so much ha! But it really does work great, moisturizes really good and helps prevent stretch marks.
9 // Rosehip Oil- I use this rose hip oil to also help prevent stretch marks. I heard about it through some mom friends of mine who swore by it during their pregnancies. I decided to give it a go this pregnancy and so far I’m loving it. I will mix a few drops of the oil with the tummy butter and put it on after the shower at night!
10 // Day Planner- Pregnancy brain is SO real!!! When I’m pregnant, my brain gets foggy, it’s harder to focus and concentrate, and I forget small things. For my work I need to write everything down or I will miss deadlines and important dates. I like to physically write everything down in a planner, not in my phone. I remember things better when I hand write it and I like seeing everything clearly laid out in front of my at my desk. If you like using your phone, there are great apps for keeping track of things and Google Calendar is great also!
11 // Pink Blush Maternity Dress- This little black dress is my favorite maternity dress I own! It is super soft, comfortable, flattering, and is the perfect length. It comes in a ton of other colors as well! It’s great to thrown on when I don’t have anything to wear, for date nights, and I even wear it with a cute cardigan and sandals for a casual outfit.
12 // Protiva Protein Powder- 30 Servings of Protein Collagen Powder, All Natural, Clinically Proven, OBGYN Approved. This is the one my OBGYN highly recommended to take everyday. I usually make a shake everyday, but I’m going to try mixing it in my oatmeal in the morning and making overnight oats with it!
13// Pregnancy Pillow- This pillow is so great and helps support your body, belly, and back. This will come in handy when my bump starts getting really big and it gets harder to sleep at night.
14 // The Bump App- I always get lots of questions when I post on IG stories how big the baby is compared to fruit. The daily baby tracker app is called The Bump and I love it! It tells you how your baby is growing, developing and changes happening to your body each week. They also have amazing articles as well. I love the 3D visual they have where you can see in depth the baby’s growth. There is also a planner in there as well and they help prepare you for each of your doctor visits.
15 // Baby Wise- I’m re-reading this amazing book right now to get ready for the baby! It has lots of amazing tips on baby sleep schedules, sleep training, and much more! I highly recommend it for any expecting mom!
16 // Workout Leggings- These ones are great with a growing bump and make working out way more comfortable during your pregnancy!
17 // Bra Extenders- These are useful it you want to keep your regular bras but want some extra room during pregnancy.
