9 MONTH BABY UPDATE…
KENNEDY’S DRESS (GAP.COM) // BOW (MODERN PIGGY) // MONTHLY PHOTO PROP (LULUJO.COM)
I still can’t believe my sweet baby girl will be a one year old in a couple months!!! Even though I want her to stay a baby forever, it truly is getting more and more fun as the months go by. She is changing so much in just a matter of a couple weeks! I am a tad late on the 9 month baby update (Kennedy will be 10 months on the 21st), but I wanted to do sort of a re-cap on everything that when on during this 9th month so I can share it with you!
9 Month Milestones:
- TALKING + COMMUNICATING – Kennedy is saying “Num Num” when she wants more food or is hungry, she says “Night Night” when its bedtime or nap time and she is really sleepy, she still says “Mama and Dada,” but she loves to say “Dada” more 😉 She LOVES waving hi and bye to strangers! We will be out at a restaurant and she will make eye contact with people and smile and start waving (and sometimes won’t stop for a while haha!) It is the CUTEST thing in the world! I have a book called ‘100 First Words‘ that I have read to her since she was like 3 months old. I point out objects and people in the book and say the word out loud to her. If I ask for example where is the tree, she will point to the picture of the tree in the book! She has started to clap a little too and shakes her head when she is “dancing” and hears music!
- WHAT KENNEDY LOVES – She loves being out and about, being around lots of people, she loves other babies and kids too! She loves more than anything her Little Gym Class! It is a parent and baby play class where a group of babies play, do activities and explore around the big play gym! She loves her sippy cup and water, and loves eating everything and anything! She also loves riding around in the wagon we call her “chariot” 🙂
- MOVING – She is pulling up on furniture and speed crawling everywhere! She loves standing up in her crib when she wakes up from her naps, and if I play music she will bounce up and down! She doesn’t like to sit still for diaper changes anymore and twists and turns to try to get away. Let’s just say every changing turns into a mini workout for mommy trying to get her to stay still. One thing I’ve noticed that helps is putting a teething toy for her to chew on or giving her a bottle to drink. I notice if I have either of those things handy for a changing, she will usually stay still 😉
- SLEEP – She is taking two naps a day now, each nap around 1.5-2 hours long. She sleeps about 12 hours straight at night. We went through the dreaded 8 month sleep regression, but we made it though and she is back on a good schedule. That is where she transitioned from 3 naps down to 2 naps. I will talk about her nap and sleep schedule below! I followed the Baby Wise book to get her into a good sleep and nap schedule. Also, I have turned to the Wee Bee Dreaming Blog for advice on baby sleeping and nap. She also has helpful information on sleep transitions!
- EATING – Her main food is still formula, and she drinks 25-30 ounces of milk a day. She doesn’t like her bottles as much as she used to, and sometimes will drink less than that. She seems way more interested in what we are eating and her baby food than milk nowadays. She eats three meals a day, with some snacks in between if she seems hungry. For snacks I will usually feed her organic baby puffs, yogurt melts, or teething biscuits. She mainly eats finger foods now and likes to feed herself. I only give her purees now maybe once a day or if I’m in a rush and need to quickly feed her, or if we are out and about and not near a restaurant. She eats what I eat and so far loves everything we have given her! She has had chicken, steak, salmon, brown rice, couscous, quinoa, most veggies like broccoli, carrots, spinach, kale, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, and avocado, whole milk yogurt, greek yogurt, bread, beans, tortilla, lots of different fruits, like pears, bananas, strawberries, mango, and blueberries. All the fruit and veggies we give her are all smashed, cooked so they are soft, and cut into tiny pieces!
- PLAYING – Kennedy LOVES playing with all her toys and especially loves this singing and talking puppy, this activity center table she pulls up and stands to play with it, and this activity center walker. I have a playmat she will play on and that is “play area” where I have all her toys and everything organized in bins. She has a ball pit that used to be an activity mat when she was really little, and she loves sitting in there and playing with all the balls! I got her these flashcards with the alphabet, first words, shapes and colors, and numbers. I will do 10-15 flashcards and show her the photo and saw the word or number. I also read to her at least once a day, even though sometimes she won’t pay attention! lol She has started to sit in my lap though for most of the reading time and likes turning the pages now. I love reading this rhyming book to her. Books that rhyme are good for babies and toddlers because it helps with learning phonics and language. She loves taking all her books out of the bin and opening them up and looking at all the pictures inside! Also, a cardboard box and a small plastic ball will keep her entertained and happy for a LONG time too! haha
Kennedy’s Daily Schedule +Feeding Schedule:
Each day is slightly different (give or take 30min-1hour), but usually her schedule looks like this. She stays awake for 3-3.5 hours, no more than 4-5 hours! She takes 2 naps a day now and sleeps 12 hours at night.
7:00am – Wakes up! Drinks bottle (6 oz.)
7:45am-8:45am – She will play with her toys and crawl all around- usually being chased by daddy. She spends most of her mornings playing with Daddy because Alex works really late during the week, usually past 12am everyday. So I love that they are able to have that bonding time together in the mornings bc she doesn’t see him the rest of the day usually. Most mornings, Alex and I do a workout at home called T25, and she will be good in the pack-n-play. She will play with her toys for about 25 minutes! Luckily, the workout is only 25 minutes 😉
9:00am – Breakfast in her high chair!
10:00am – Goes down for nap #1! I do a small nap-time routine, which is just a short version of her bed time routine but without the bath. It helps relax her and have her know it is nap time. I also try to start the nap time routine in the 15 minute “window” before the 3 hours is up.
12:00pm – Wakes up from nap, changing, and drinks a bottle of formula (4-6oz)
12:15pm – This is usually when I get Kennedy dressed and ready to go out and do a fun activity or run errands with mommy!
1:00pm– Lunch!
3:00pm – Goes down for nap #2 (nap time routine again)
5:00pm – Wakes up from nap, changing, and drinks bottle of formula(4-6oz)
6:00pm- Eats dinner with mommy!
6:30pm – Bath time and I get her ready for bed! She sits up in the bath tub now and I let her play with all her bath toys- she LOVES her bath! It gets her really calm and ready for sleep. She gets really sleepy after her bath and starts to get fussy after I take her out and dry her off. She knows that its time for bed! lol I quickly put lotion on her, give her her probiotic drops, diaper, pjs, Owlet, bottle and then put down to sleep. She will sleep on average 12 hours.
7:00-7:15pm – Bedtime!

My son is 9 months old too, so I was really interested to see how Kennedy’s eating solid foods was going. She’s got such a more diverse palate than my Calum! I’m going to have to get more adventurous with food! I’ve been nervous to try any meat products. How many teeth does she have? Love the part about diaper changing time turning into a workout – mine has turned into instant cry-fest. Oh the drama! 🙂

haha I feel ya! It’s like wrestling with a crocodile to get her to sit still for changing 😉 She has the bottom 2 teeth, and the top 4 are almost all down as well! I give her nitrate free turkey meat, rotisserie chicken (her FAV), and bits of meat like steak if we are eating it! She also has had meatloaf and LOVED it! After Kennedy’s birthday party next week I am going to try to get a baby feeding post up- so keep an eye out for that! 🙂
