With Mother’s Day coming up soon, I want to open up and share with you some things I’ve learned that have shaped me into the mom I am today. Also, I have teamed up with Zappos and Blowfish Malibu to show you our cute mommy and me sandals that we are loving lately!
It was only 1.5 years ago that my entire life completely changed. It was September 21, 2016 when I became a mom to a beautiful little girl straight from Heaven. It was something I had wanted since I was a little girl. I was literally obsessed with babies and always would admire moms I knew and saw from afar. I knew from an early age it was such an amazing gift and job to be a mom. I knew it was my calling in life was to be a mom- and it was something I wanted more than anything.
Throughout my early 20’s, there was so many great and exciting things that happened! So many things I accomplished but there were some dark times I went through as well. Most of what got me through those trials and hard times was God and knowing that it would all work out in the end. I just knew everything I was working hard for and going though was bringing me one step closer to becoming a wife and mom. It was something I prayed for every single day- even when I thought God would never bless me with those things. I would see all my friends finding amazing guys, getting married, and even starting families. I was beginning to convince myself that wasn’t going to happen for me. Is there really my perfect guy out there in this big world somewhere who would want the broken me? Or would I ever be a mom? Even at 24, those thoughts always plagued me and gave me anxiety. Fast forward a few years later, some heartbreaks, and I meet Alex. Now fast forward a few more years later, and I am married to my soulmate and the bestest friend I have ever had. Oh, and I am finally a mom! So if you are single or not a mom yet, have trust in God and don’t ever lose sight of what you want!!! He has a plan for you and if you stay on the right path, he will lead you to where you need to be! The dark times and trials in my life have taught me soo much. Looking back, I needed to go through all those things to find my husband Alex and become the mother I am now. I am so proud of the woman and mom I am today. Those are all things that I will use to help teach Kennedy and all our future children! I want to share with you a few things I have learned and that have really stuck with me, in hopes that it will help you too!
I would say the number one things I learned is PATIENCE. Patience will help you in so many areas of your life and in all of your relationships. It is also something much needed for being a parent. Having patience during dark times, that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Having patience will get you through anything.
I love this quote, “A moment of patience, will save you from a lifetime of regret.”
A major things I struggle with is being patient with myself and those closest to me. I sometimes always want things to happen right away, or on my time. But taking a deep breath and taking a step back to be patient is so important. Being a mom, there are days I look at the clock and can’t believe how fast the day went by because we were having so much fun!.Then there are always those days in the week where I lost my patience that day. I then regret it when I am laying down for bed on my pillow reflecting on the day. I have learned to step back and realize these years go by so fast, and these frustrating and difficult baby/ toddler phase won’t last forever.
Another thing I learned is how much we are in charge and responsible for shaping these sweet, innocent humans into the people they will be. It hit me when Kennedy turned one year old, just how much this little girl will look up to me and watch everything I do. From how I treat strangers, to how I react to situations, to how I am as a person in general. Knowing this has made me want to be BETTER. I fall short every single day, but I try everyday. I wake up thinking that every time before I get Kennedy out of her crib in the morning. I want to help shape her by showing positive things to her: by showing her daddy love and respect, by being kind to strangers, by not making fun of people or talking behind their back, by being kind and respectful to the elderly and those who are disabled, by treating animals gently, by saying please and thank you, and the list goes on. It is a big responsibility and something I don’t take lightly. It may seem like little things, but they are huge things to me.
One thing Alex and I try to do all the time is make her laugh! We both can’t get enough of her laugh!! You know, that baby laugh that is so genuine and loud, and makes your heart burst!! We always try to fill our home and lives with laughter and love and affections! It is something we both knew we wanted to have in our home forever. Alex and I try our hardest everyday to show LOVE. We have to consciously make the effort to show it as much as we can to each other and Kennedy!!. Having a home full of love, laughter, and parents who are madly in love is something we always want for our kids. I would say as a family unit that is our number one priority and goal in everything we do!
One of my favorite things to do, especially since I’m a girl mom, is twinning with Kennedy! Of course I love fashion and dressing up, but finding cute outfits for her is too much fun! I was so excited when Zappos reached out and sent us these mommy and me matching sandals. Zappos has everything under the sun- from shoes, baby clothes, to guy clothes! I love Zappos because I know they always have the largest selection and the newest styles for the season. I recently got these mommy and me sandals by Blowfish Malibu and am obsessed!! If you know me, then you know I love twinning with Kennedy- it’s just too fun! Also I might as well take advantage of it while she lets me! These Blowfish Malibu sandals are so comfy and perfect sandals for summer. I have been wearing them running errands and on the weekends for my cute and casual outfits. They look so cute with denim shorts like these cut-off ones or a summer dress!
