How to Pick the Best Pendant Lights for Your Kitchen!
Today I’m sharing the new light fixtures I got for our kitchen from Hudson Valley Lighting! I’m also sharing how to pick out the best pendant lights for your kitchen!
The kitchen island pendant can be the jewelry of the kitchen, but is also an important part of function in the kitchen. Try finding a pendant light that fits your needs and offers both function and style. I love pendant lighting in kitchens over islands because they do it all! It really complete the look of the kitchen and provide a great overall light source to the entire kitchen.
When we first moved into our new house early last summer, everything was new construction and done for us. We immediately loved all the colors, counter tops, appliances, wood floors that the builder already picked out beforehand. There were a few things I knew I need to add to make the space my own and add my personal touch. I think for any room, the main focal point is the lighting. It is what draws your attention and I think can be the showstopper in any room- especially in kitchens and Master Bedrooms. The places you will be spending the most time in your house!
I knew I wanted to add brass hardware to the cabinets and brass lights. I just had to decide from the million of options which brand and style I wanted to go with. I discovered Hudson Valley Lighting after searing for hours on home decor websites and Pinterest. I instantly fell in love with their unique and beautiful light fixtures and the amazing quality. Quality is so important to me, so I knew going with a trusted and well recognized brand used my countless interior designers would be a perfect choice. I found the perfect industrial light fixtures to go over the kitchen island. I think brass is so beautiful in kitchens and bathrooms right now. It really makes the space pop and having touches of brass with the hardware, faucet or lighting will transform it.
I got two large brass Hudson Valley Pelham pendants to go over the island and it completely transformed the feel and look of the kitchen- it was exactly what it needed! The brass color is really the jewelry of the kitchen and adds so much style to it. These pendant lights are the perfect industrial light fixture and have a touch of luxury to them. These pendant lights have more of a task lighting purpose, so the light is directed down to where it’s desired. These lights have light diffusers which helps soften shadows while preserving the light’s intensity.
There are a variety of different styles from Hudson Valley Lighting you can choose from to fit your decor and budget. Below are some of my favorite pendant lights from Hudson Valley Lighting:
Hanging a Kitchen Pendant Light
- Pendants should hang 12-20 inches below an 8-foot ceiling. For each additional foot of ceiling height, add 3 inches. For example, for a 9-foot ceiling, the pendant should hang 15-23 inches below.
- The pendant height can also be measured up from the surface below the light; provide a 30- to 36-inch clearance above tables and counter tops. This is the most practical height, especially for pendants used for task lighting.
- Pendants should be hung over work surfaces at a height that doesn’t block views across the kitchen.
- Consider dimmers and switches that offer opportunities to adjust the level of light to suit a task or mood.
How to Pick the Best Pendant Lights for Your Kitchen
Here is a Before photo of the kitchen! I took this when they were finishing construction on the house. I was able to use a helpful feature on Houzz.com called Create a New Sketch to visualize what I wanted my kitchen to look like. You can search from thousands of products and insert them into your own photo of any room in your house. Another cool feature I love about Houzz is the amazing decor idea search feature. you can search “Kitchen Pendant Lights” and it will give you tons of inspiration decor ideas. You can also be more specific for the certain style you are going for such as Transitional, Farmhouse, or Modern. These tools will help a ton in narrowing down the type of pendant lights you will want to get for your kitchen. One you find your style you love, you can then search for the lights in the shop and order directly from them!
This was my original sketch months ago, so it’s amazing to see my kitchen completed and done! The very last thing we will be doing is replacing the vent hood, kitchen faucet and maybe painting the walls. But with all the other projects going on and our baby on the way, that will most likely have to wait a little bit 🙂
