How to Find Time to Workout and Stay on Track!
Sharing my personal tips on how to get started with working out again and saying on track!

I can say for certain that I’m sure I’m not the first mom with littles to say “I just don’t have time to workout,” or “I’m just too tired to workout!” Believe me when I say that I FEEL you and I’ve felt like that basically the whole first year of Dane’s life! Now that he’s almost a one year old I’m just now getting my energy and motivation to REALLY get my booty in shape! I’m not doing this to look super skinny in my swimsuits or to look the most fit among other bloggers, I really, truly am doing this for me. For once, I’ve felt like I really want to just be strong, have endurance and be healthy on the inside-both mentally and physically!
When Dane was first born I really struggled with the 1-2 kids transition. It was a big shift and totally threw me for a loop. I absolutely was SO thrilled to be blessed to have two healthy and beautiful children but between all the responsibilities and hats that I wear (and all moms!) It left me totally unmotivated and too defeated to workout. Any “me” time that I was able to carve out I took a shower or just vegged on my phone or watched TV. Not the worst thing in the world, but I am really wanting to start making this postpartum journey after Dane my fittest one yet. I’ll be sharing my fitness and healthy eating journey with you guys as I go along but for now I’ll share a few tips on what I’ve been recently doing to add to my daily routine!
1.Eat Healthy:
Set yourself up for success by having your fridge and pantry stocked with healthy food and snacks. Healthy food will be the source of your energy! I notice a HUGE difference when I eat healthy and workout than when I workout and still eat bad. I see little to no results. I’ve cut out soda, most sugar during the week (except some treats like healthy ice cream bars or brownie brittle), and have been trying to follow the Clean Simple Eats Spring Cookbook. I will do typically 1-2 of their meals a day. I also drink Crystal Light Pure Energy packets throughout the day and drink one before I workout for a boost of energy.
2.Time Management:
The “lack of time” excuse was my tried and true way of getting out of working out for this whole past year! But as I really was assessing my goals I realized that even 10 or 15 minutes is way better than nothing at all! I would go months without ever doing anything because of the “lack of time” excuse that was my mental block. While the kids are on the floor playing, if I don’t have time to fit in a solo workout sesh I’ll do some jumping jacks, pushups, donkey kicks, tricep dips, lunges, etc…. Just while they’re watching TV or playing! So simple, yet such a big mind shift! I’ve felt so accomplished since squeezing in just even 10 minutes a day!
3.Go to bed at an earlier time:
Trust me on this! I used to resist this because I would crave more “me” time and watching TV and staying up late, but then totally regret it the next day because I would have nooo energy. My mood, metabolism and energy greatly suffered. I now have a bedtime ritual where I wash my face and get into bed by 10pm. I try to be asleep by 10:30pm. If I’m not asleep by 11pm I’ll feel the lag the next day. They say you’re more likely to make healthy food choices and have a faster metabolism the more restful sleep you get!
4.Include your kids in your fitness:
I love hiking on trails or bike baths near our house, and going on walks around the neighborhood with my children! They also love it too. Something about getting outside and being in nature makes us so much happier and feel good! I like to go on walks with them everyday and on the weekends we’ll do one hike as a family! If you take them to a big open park, bring a soccer ball and kick the ball around with them! If you can all go on a bike ride, that is an awesome family activity that is not only healthy but creates such fun memories as a family!
5.Invest in new workout apparel and equipment:
Buying a few new workout outfits and shoes really has helped motivate me to get back on the workout train! Putting on a cute outfit really makes me want to get more fit and workout more. Silly, I know- but do what motivates you! I also bought a few new pieces of workout equipment that has helped me tone up a ton! Some new finds are my new yoga mat from Lululemon that I LOVE, these booty bands, these sliding disks and my B.O.B. jogging stroller!
Lastly, here is a roundup of some of my favorite apps and sources for workouts! I also love using the SWEAT and Tone It Up! Workout apps!
