TRAVEL GUIDE: CABO SAN LUCAS…
Looking to fit in a last minute vacation before the end of summer?! Cabo San Lucas/ San Jose del Cabo is the place to go! Click below to keep reading…
You might think when you read the word “Cabo,” things like parties, clubs, college kids partying, etc. You can do those things there, but it is actually very family friendly and we had SUCH a fun time here as a family with our baby! We stayed outside of Cabo in a city called San Jose del Cabo, which is quieter and has lots of hotels and pretty beaches. I loved the location of our hotel because it was near historic San Jose which was so fun to go see, the beaches were so pretty, and I loved how quiet and peaceful it was. If you ARE looking for a party and lots of clubbing, then staying in the actual city of Cabo which is about thirty minutes away, is the place to go. 😉
Contrary to what most people think, Cabo is actually very family friendly and there are lots of things to do! You can spend days at the pool and the beach relaxing, horseback riding, kayaking, zip lining, ride ATVs in the desert, explore the marina, go on a sunset dinner cruise, or fishing excursion, eating at amazing restaurants, exploring the city, have a spa day, or just relax in a cabana on the beach! I am sharing all of the places we did for fun, places we ate at, and where we stayed!
– What to Do for Fun –
1.Blue Sky Cabo
The highlight of our vacation was seeing The Arch in Cabo on a beautiful 60 Foot Beltram “BLUE SEA” boat from Blue Sky Cabo! I couldn’t believe how beautiful the arch and water was until we got to see it up close and from the comfy of this beautiful boat. The captain and staff on the boat were SO nice and friendly, and made us feel right at home by offering us water and snacks. Blue Sky Cabo offers tours of The Arch, parties on the boat for example for a bachelorette or bachelor party, boat cruise for families with water toys, fishing charters, deep sea fishing, offshore fishing and much more!
They let you have time to play in the water and jump off this rock in the middle of the ocean, play with the ocean toys, and just have a blast! There is also a sunset cruise you can take which includes dinner, drinks and an amazing view of The Arch at sunset!
Going on the boat was hands down the BEST part of our Cabo vacation. I am so grateful we were able to experience that and see beautiful arch up close, and the photos and memories will . I highly recommend putting this at the top of your must-do activity while you are in Cabo with family or friends!!!
2. Flora Farms
Flora Farms is a must-do if you are vacationing in Cabo! If you love delicious, fresh food and a nature inspired setting, this is the place to go. No wonder Flora Farms is a hot spot for celebrities and many weddings- it is absolutely gorgeous. It is an oasis in the middle of the desert- literally!!! It was quite the adventure to get there, and unless you map it out beforehand, it can be easy to get lost. But after driving down a few windy and dusty roads, we got there. You have to make a resrvation for the restaurant online or by calling before you arrive, as they are usually booked up. The grounds are really beautiful and they have cute shops, cottages, gardens, and a turtle pond that Kennedy loved. It was such a fun mid-day getaway!
3. Exploring Cabo
We rented a car at the airport through Hertz, and ended up exploring several parts of Cabo! I was hesitant to rent a car because of it being a different country and not knowing the area, but it is very touristy and the places we drove to we felt safe. We were able to drive to Downtown San Juan Cabo which was so much fun. It is a super cute, old historic area of the city that has cute shops with authentic Mexican clothes, souvenirs, and great places to eat. There was a cute street called ____ that was lined with colorful flags that we loved walking down.
We stopped at the Mirador Costa Azul lookout point! There is a Coconut stand on the point in Cabo San Jose where we got a fresh coconut to drink from and yummy coconut to snack on. This spot is also a beautiful place for pictures as well and to watch the surfers down below catching some waves!
3. Pool and Beach Days
A couple days during our vacation we decided to mainly spend our day by the pool at the hotel or at the beach! Those days were so much fun and relaxing, and Kennedy also had so much fun. She loved when I would push her around in her flamingo floatie and she would wave at everyone we passed! She was such a ham and the center of attention at the pool! The beach at our hotel was so beautiful and Kennedy also LOVES the beach. The water wasn’t super warm, but she still loved when Alex would dip her feet in the water. As you can tell in the pictures below, she has a ball at the beach and would stay there all day if we let her!
– WHERE TO EAT –
1. Outpost Cabo
Outpost Cabo is a fun lounge/ restaurant in the city of Cabo. It was such a fun lunch spot before we went on the boat! They have delicious fresh juices and amazing food! Most of it is small bites, but they were filling and so tasty and fresh. I had the Flora’s Green Acres green juice, and Alex got the Flora’s Garden Farmer. The dishes we had were the petite tuna pate and shrimp tostadas and the petite smoked tuna tacos. They were both amazing and the tuna tacos were so mini and cute!! We loved the ambiance, and the staff was so friendly and amazing to us. They were so sweet to Kennedy and accommodating, and Kennedy was loving all the attention! She made lots of new friends here 🙂 I loved how family and baby friendly they were even though it isn’t your typical family/kid place to go. The food here was definitely my top favorite and I can’t wait to go back overtime we visit Cabo!
2. Flora Farms
3. Javier’s
Javier’s is inside the hotel Cabo Azul we were staying at. They have multiple locations throughout California and one in Las Vegas! It is my hubby and my favorite Mexican restaurant! They have the best chips and salsa, and their food is just delicious! It is more “gourmet” Mexican food, so it is on the pricer side. We sat beach side at sunset with a gorgeous view of the water and the pink sky! You can’t tell from the picture, but the sunset was just beautiful! The service here is amazing and the food is out of this world! I highly recommend going here during your trip to Cabo! I got the Chile Verde dish and Alex got the enchiladas! I also get the seafood enchiladas and they are soo amazing!
4. La Lupita Taco & Mezcal
This return was in in Historic San Jose, and had such a fun ambiance! We went here for dinner one night, and wish we found out about it sooner because we loved the food here. We got delicious ceviche, chips and guacamole, and delicious fusion tacos. It had a live band that was about to start when we were leaving, but the atmosphere here was so fun!
5. The Tropicana Inn
The Tropicana Inn restaurant is such a great breakfsat spot! Alex and I aren’t huge breakfast people, so all the other days we would have breakfast at the hotel like a yogurt. But it was nice to have a large breakfast during our trip! This place is very poplar but we were able to get there early and get a table. I got the eggs benedict and Alex got the waffles. Both were so good!! The staff is very friendly and we got amazing service! Definitely a must try for breakfast!
6. El Merkato
This really hip open air food place/ market called El Merkato! There are about 10-15 different places to choose from the eat, and food ranging from sushi to italian to traditional Mexican. They are all reasonably priced for the most part and really delcious! We at at this traditional Mexican place inside El Merkato and got a quesadilla and tamale. It was very different from the ametricaized versions I am used to, but it was really good. There is lots of seating and they have high chairs for babies. It is a great place for lunch and dinner for not having to spend a lot to eat out!
7. Las Guacamayas
So this cantina called Las Guacamayas is a local spot we found on Yelp, and we loved it! Just a heads up, it is in the middle of neighborhood and it is out of the way from all the tourist areas. It is very traditional mexican food and it was really good! The al pastor tacos were my favorite and Kenneyd loved the beans 😉 My hubby got a variety of tacos as well and loved all of it. It is outside seating only, so it was hot and not really well ventilated with air, but we still enjoyed ourselves! I highly recommend going here if you want to venture out of the more tourist spots!
– WHERE TO STAY –
1. Cabo Azul
We stayed at the hotel called the Cabo Azul in San Jose, Cabo! It is about a thirty minute drive from the actual city of Cabo where all the bars and clubs are, but we LOVED the hotel and the location. I loved the area the hotel is in and we felt safe waking around the hotel and going to the grocery store down to street called La Comer. We would go to the grocery store to get water bottles, snacks, and breakfast items to keep in our fridge in our room! There was a mini kitchen area/ room in our hotel room which was SO nice- especially with all of our baby food and items. There is also a small market, ice cream shop and Starbucks. Across the street there is a nice shopping center with yummy restaurants, shopping and gelato!
The hotel room was stunning and we loved the feel and decor. The bathroom is also equally as gorgeous. Our room had it’s own pool area, so the rooms around us and us had our own quiet pool which was nice! There are also several main pools with a restaurant next to the pool. We loved lounging by the pool all day and relaxing in the hotel’s choice of open air cabanas on the beach, poolside cabanas, and swinging cabana beds as well! There is a “Nino’s Pool” for kids with a waterslide, a full-service day care, a kid’s camp, and babysitting! This hotel was so nice, accommodating, friendly, beautiful, relaxing and very family friendly. There was a good mix of families, families with young babies and kids, couples, and young people. I loved how this resort was so beautiful and had everything you would need while staying in Mexico, and you wouldn’t have to leave the hotel if you didn’t want to.

Love this! I’m going in October with my husband and 8 month old, so this is very helpful! We have been on the fence about renting a car though. I really want to so we can explore more. Did you bring your own car seat for Kennedy?
Katelyn Jones says
Awesome- you will love it! Yes I did bring my own car seat for Kennedy. We brought it because we were lucky to have an empty seat next to us on the plane rides and she was able to nap during the flight. Also, I don’t 100% trust used car seats and don’t know where they’ve been. But I’m sure if you just rent one for the trip you’ll be fine! 🙂
