Dane’s 1st Birthday Party!
Sharing details and photos from Dane’s “Rookie of the Year” themed 1st Birthday party!
I’m so excited to share details from Dane’s 1st Birthday Party! It was so fun planning out his party and decorating everything. I either go all out for birthday parties or don’t do anything at all haha! I love planning birthday parties and choosing a theme to run with. You can check out the “Once Upon a Time” 1st Birthday I did for my daughter Kennedy. We love baseball in our family, so we thought it would be fun to do a “Rookie of The Year” baseball theme for our little guy. I decided to do a small get-together with close family and some of Dane’s little baby friends. It was so fun seeing everyone and getting to celebrate my baby’s big milestone birthday!
FAMILY MATCHING BASEBALL TEES (sizing: Dane (12-18 month), Me: (medium), Alex: (XL), Kennedy: (5T). // DANE’S BASEBALL PANTS // BABY BASEBALL HAT // BABY CONVERSE // MY WHITE SNEAKERS // ALEX’S SNEAKERS // KENNEDY’S RED BOW
For the main table, I put his birthday cake, candy, cookies, and other baseball themed candy. I found this cute wood 2-tier display that worked perfectly to lay out the Babe Ruth candy and cracker jacks. These would also be great for cupcakes as well. I like that it is a neutral color so I can use them for other parties and in my house as well. I decided to make the sugar cookies for the party, and I always love making them- it might be my new hobby! I used this amazing sugar cookie recipe, and I always use this royal frosting recipe when I make sugar cookies. I’m not any professional by any means, but I think it’s so much fun to be creative and make them for special occasions. I found these cute baseball themed cookie cutters and they worked great. I will link all the tools I used to make them below!
I also made Dane’s birthday cake myself!! This was actually one of my first times making a birthday cake AND plus using fondant- and I did this the night before his party. Something I do NOT recommend haha. I used this delicious vanilla cake recipe and this fondant video to show me how to apply it to the cake. I was able to get the different colors by taking small amounts of the white fondant and mixing in the food coloring to achieve the desired color.
Another question I have been asked a lot, was how I did those faux corn dogs. All I did was simply get twinkies and insert a cake pop stick. I then used red cookie icing (which you can buy pre-made in a bottle at the grocery store), to drizzle over the top to make it look like ketchup. If I were to do it again, I would probably freeze them with the cake pop stick inside, then stick them in the foam. That would help the twinkie not slip especially if it’s hot outside.
I displayed Dane’s 1st Birthday photoshoot photos throughout the party too! I went to Jenny Mason Photography, a local newborn and family photographer here in Southern California. She did such an amazing job with his newborn photoshoot and also with his one year photos. I’m so glad we did them because it was so nice have those photos on display for friends and family. This custom first birthday milestone poster was so fun for family and friends to read. I had it printed at my local Costco and I got the wood frame from Michael’s.
The balloon arch was a lot of work, but it is so worth it!! Luckily my talented sister-in-law is so good at doing balloon arches, and she put this together for me the night before the party. I highly recommend doing it 1-2 days before the party!! We did a mixture of large, medium and small balloons, and this arch is about 25 balloons. I got this balloon arch kit and used that to put it all together. My father-in-law made this backdrop, so we attached it to that. Below are the balloon colors I ordered to create this:
(8) – color 47, (8) – color 82, (9) – color 2
