The Perfect Flooring Addition to My Home
I’m so excited to finally share the new wood flooring for our downstairs from Home Depot!
Last year when Alex and I were shopping for a home, we came across a new house that was just being completed and had included all the upgrades that were pre-selected by the builder. This was a huge selling point for us since we loved almost all of the items that the building had selected. Also, the thought of designing a new home with all the knick knacks, etc. seemed exhausting and I know Alex was not going to provide much wiggle room for upgrades! LOL! He is more of a DIY kind of person and likes to save money where he can!
Although I loved everything that was included in my home, there was one thing that I wasn’t so crazy about – the downstairs flooring. It was dark, drab, and did not fit my style or decor. So when The Home Depot reached out to partner for the Flooring Always On Campaign, I couldn’t wait to get started on this new project and install the perfect flooring for my home!
Since becoming homeowners, Home Depot has been like a second home for us. We are there basically every weekend, and it’s always our go-to place for any home improvement or repair we need. They have the best and largest selection in-store and online of home decor products, tools, wood, and much more! This was my first time shopping for flooring and I was blown away not only at the selection that Home Depot offered, but also the low prices! One little secret that not everyone knows about is the Home Depot Price Match Policy, which guarantees that you are getting the best price! To get started on this project, I first created a mood board to get an idea of what color and width flooring would fit my decor. The decor in my house is very light, bright, with lots of white and neutral colors, and has a bit of a coastal vibe. It was helpful to create the mood board so I could visualize everything and make sure it went with my style before we made a selection. I also went to my local Home Depot store to check out the flooring products in person. I brought home a bunch of samples and compared them. I had Alex help me by telling me which ones he liked best, and we both have similar taste because he chose the same one as me!
The flooring that really caught my eye was the Malibu Wide Plank-French Oak Santa Monica engineered hardwood. This hardwood is the light wood that I was looking for and I loved the natural variation it had. Also, the flooring has varying length and width, which gives it more dimension and uniqueness.
Alex and I chose engineered hardwood for several reasons. First, it is a fantastic alternative to solid hardwood flooring and has more dimensional strength, is less expensive, and holds up better to extreme temperatures and moisture. The top layer is real wood, so you get the natural varying texture, colors and finishes, as well as the same look and feel as hardwood. Second, given the added durability of engineered hardwood, I knew that it would hold up better than wood alternatives with my kids and pets. The Malibu Wide Plank-French Oak Santa Monica engineered hardwood is constructed to make the installation as simple as possible with the “click” together feature. We decided to install our flooring via the “Float” method rather than securing it down with glue, nails, or staples. Given our method of installation, we were able to install the flooring in just 2 days. The final product came out better than I expected! The light color of wood really puts the final touch on my downstairs decor and my living room/kitchen feels more complete! This project has been so much fun and I hope it provides some inspiration for my readers to add their dream flooring to their home!
