Kennedy is now 17 months old and her schedule and development has changed so much the past couple months. In this post, I’m sharing Kennedy’s schedule and all the changes in her development for age 16-17 months!
KENNEDY’S SCHEDULE +FEEDING SCHEDULE:
8-9am Kennedy is up for the day! The past couple months she has been sleeping later than before. Some weeks she was waking up at 9am, but lately it has been more towards 8/8:30am. I get her changed, do her hair, and dressed for the day!
9:15am Breakfast! A typical breakfast I make is a blueberry waffle with a yogurt pouch and some berries on the side. Another breakfast she loves is scrambled eggs with some shredded cheese on top and some healthy toast (we love Dave’s Killer Bread). She almost always has a side of fruit such as blueberries, raspberries, or some sliced up bananas with either honey or peanut butter on top! While she eats breakfast she usually watches Daniel The Tiger or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Daniel The Tiger is a cute educational TV show for babies and toddlers and Kennedy loves it!
9:45am After we clean up the mess from breakfast, we go over to her play area and play for about 30 minutes. I like to get out of the house at least once before her big nap of the day which is at 1pm. So after some playtime and reading, I will take her outside to play in the backyard, go on a walk around the neighborhood, take her to the park or we go run errands such as grocery shopping.
12pm Lunch! We are usually back from being out and about around noon! This is when I make both of our lunches while she plays.
12:45pm Milk time! Around this time, Kennedy starts to wind down and gets sleepy. I can tell she is ready for her nap when she says “BaBa!” and points to the fridge, to have her milk. After she finishes up her lunch, I get her bottle of milk and head to her room to put her down for her nap. She will drink about 4-7oz of milk! I share more about her nap/bedtime routine I do for her in this post.
1pm I will usually go try to get some work and emails done during her nap! This is also when I will catch up on any laundry or cleaning. She will fall asleep around 1pm and sleep on average 3 hours. Some days are better than others, that is just how it goes! Some days she will sleep exactly 3 hours, or wake up after 1.5 hours, or some days she will sleep 5 hours. I am starting to listen to what her body needs and I believe whatever amount of sleep she gets, it’s what she needs at the time. I do notice she will sleep longer when she’s teething and growing.
4-5pm Kennedy is up from her nap! She always wakes up hungry, so I give her a small snack such as a cheese stick, crackers with hummus or some fruit. Alex doesn’t get home from work until 6:30pm, and he cherishes the time in the evening he gets to play with her. So I keep Kennedy entertained with playtime, working on her flashcards, or a movie such as her FAVS Frozen and Moana. I try to not let her watch too much tv and limit her viewing to either a small cartoon during breakfast or 1 show or part of a movie in the evening.
6pm I start making dinner! This is the time when Kennedy starts to get really hungry and fussy. This is the hardest part of the day because I’m trying to cook but she is always really needy. Once Daddy is home though, she lights up and is as happy as a clam again!
6:30pm I usually have dinner ready right when Alex gets home (some days not though haha)! After eating and cleaning up from dinner, it is about 7:15pm.
7:00pm Play time with Daddy! I will let Alex and Kennedy play and spend some quality time together. Alex loves to dance with her, read her books, or have her go help him with small things such as taking out the trash or working in the garage. I will also start picking up her toys in the play area and cleaning them off. I love this sanitizing spray for her toys because it’s non-toxic and cleans everything so well. I also use these wipes for her high chair and other things such as her toy kitchen!
7:30/ 7:45pm Bath time! I get her bottle ready for bed and we take her up to her room for bath time. She LOVES being in water and bath time is so much fun for her!! She gets all her energy and wiggles out before bed which is great. I love using the Noodle & Boo line for her bath routine! We both do her bedtime routine, and read her a book she is loving at the time. Right now she is loving this book! Kennedy switches off between me and Alex putting her down and singing her a soft lullaby before bed. She will usually point and say mama if she wants me or point to Alex if she wants Daddy to. It is so cute! 🙂
8pm Bottle #2 of Milk and Kennedy is in bed! She always sleeps with her little lamb that she just cherishes. She squeezes her lamb tight and holds onto him all night. Lately she has been having nightmares, and I will wait about 5 minutes before going in there to soothe her. 99% of the time she will calm down and fall back asleep. But she always will reach for her lamb and hold onto to him for comfort!

DEVELOPMENT & CHANGES:
The past couple months have had some really big changes as far as Kennedy’s personality, speech, and overall development! I wanted to share with you some things I’ve noticed during these two months! Starting at around 16 months, I really started to see a big leap in her speech and what she can communicate to us. She is really great with saying words we use on a daily basis. It has been really helpful in understanding her wants and needs.
Words Kennedy is saying now: Mama, Mommy, Dada and Daddy, Nana, Papa, dog, kitty, outside, car, she says “Dee!!” for her favorite show “Daniel the Tiger,” thank you, cheese, num num (when she is hungry), Minnie, yes, yeah, no, ball, outside, car, and apple. She is also sstarting to put 2-3 words together and says thank you and “I want ___!” Usually it is “I want Dada!” while is is away at work haha We started teaching her to say please and thank you around 16 months. She now is saying “thank you” a lot after she gets something handed to her, which makes mama proud! I have also been working on her words, alphabet, and shapes and colors every day. I will talk more about that below in activities! Kennedy knows her shapes and is starting to grasp more the basic colors.
She is able to understand so much more than the previous months. For example, after her diaper changing I will wrap the diaper up tightly and say go put your potty in the trash can. She walks over to her diaper pail and lifts the lid, and pushes it down herself. I have been trying to have her help me with little tasks and chores like that and picking up after herself. I bought her a small cleaning set and an empty spray bottle filled with water because she loves wiping things up and cleaning. So if we have time, after most meals, food will be thrown all over the floor. Of course I tell her no, but instead of making a big deal about her throwing the food on the floor, I have her clean up her mess herself. Lately, she has been swiping her food off the high chair or throwing food to the dog when she is full, and I’m hoping it is just a phases she will grow out of soon.
I notice she has more control over her her body and is stronger with her physical abilities. She can run now and kick a soccer ball, jump up and down a little bit, dances, and she can climb up things. She also needs to be entertained more the past couple months, especially since she is only taking one nap a day. So a large chunk of her morning from about 8am-1pm is spent doing her playtime and activities. She loves playing a lot with her toys and is starting to use her imagination for playing in her kitchen. She will pretend to make something in her kitchen, stir it, taste it, and bring it over to me to try too. It is seriously the cutest thing! I will share more about what activities and things I do with Kennedy during the day below. I have also been working on her first words, shapes, colors, and the alphabet with flashcards several times a day. I also made large flashcards myself with words! I got the book HOW TO TEACH YOUR BABY TO READ, and it has been super helpful in teaching her and helping her learn!

FAVORITE BABY PRODUCTS FOR 16-17 MONTHS:
It is so crazy how many products a little tiny human needs when they enter this world. The first year, I had loads of products that were SO helpful and made my job as a new mom so much easier. But most of those things she doesn’t need anymore and has outgrown. Below are some products I am loving at the moment! I will include clothes and toys as well!
