MY DAILY SKINCARE ROUTINE
I’ve partnered with Nordstrom to talk all about my skincare routine and I what my skincare routine looks like now that I’m in my late 20′s!
SHOP THE POST:
I have always struggled with skin issues from a very early age. I started breaking out in the 5th grade, so I had to learn from a very early age how to take care of my skin properly. I have tried almost every topical acne cream, medicine for breakouts (even did Accutane a couple times), and a lot of department store and drugstore products.
My skin is very sensitive and is affected easily by what I put on it and what I eat. My skin also will be affected and get bad when I’m under a lot of stress or about to start my period. Obviously, those things I can’t control, so I have to try not to let it bother me. I expect my skin to not be looking its best during those times or when I’m traveling. But there are things I do that really helps immensely even when my skin is acting up! Also, my skincare routine looks different now that I’m in my late 20’s than when I was in High School. I have added several extra products for diminishing wrinkles and prevention.
I’ve teamed with Nordstrom to share with you what has worked for me, what I’m using for my skin now to prevent and diminish signs of aging, and what my morning and nighttime skin routine looks like! All of the products I use and mention in this post you can get at Nordstrom or order online from Nordstrom.com! They are my go-to place for all my beauty needs because they have such a large selection of quality products. They also have such knowledgeable employees who are always willing to help or give me samples to test out products before I buy. I also love their new order online and curb-side pick up- they bring your bag right out to your car!! It’s so easy and quick, especially when I’m busy with my toddler. Nordstrom is your one-stop shop for all your beauty essentials!
Morning Routine:
I have been using this face cleanser every morning. I use a small amount and massage it into my skin. After doing that for about a minute, I use lukewarm water to splash it off. After patting my face dry, I put on a serum and a light oil-free moisturizer. Then after letting that dry for a couple minutes, I apply am SPF 40+ sunscreen every day as well! I almost never leave the house without putting sunscreen on my face, neck and chest- even when it’s cloudy outside. That is pretty much all I do for my morning routine!
If I wear makeup that day, I will then apply a primer and then my makeup! I also will use this spray on sunscreen if I’m going to be outside for longer than 20 minutes. I have this powder sunscreen that I love and will sometimes use if I don’t feel like putting on makeup but want a little bit of coverage. I also will swipe this on the top of my hands and arms when I’m driving to prevent sun damage and aging.
Nighttime Routine:
Now that I’m in my late twenties, I have had to add some additional steps for anti-aging. First, I ALWAYS wash my face every single night and never will sleep with makeup on my skin. SO I always use a balm or makeup removing wipes to take off all my face/eye makeup. Once it’s all off, I have a clean face to let the product actually absorb into the skin.
I use this anti-blemish face wash every night. I use just a small amount and massage it into my skin. The whole Belli skin care line has worked great for me and is safe to use during pregnancy! I used it all throughout my pregnancy and it helped get rid of a lot of my breakouts.
I then will get a cotton pad, and use a toner such as the Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner or the Clinique Clarifying Lotion toner. My skin feels squeaky clean and really free of any makeup, dirt and oil after doing those that.
Then I will apply a few drops of this anti-aging youth serum all over my face. Serums help with aging and will plump the skin to make it look lively and refreshed. I noticed a huge difference in my skin’s texture and overall look when I started using a serum day and night. I also love this Vitamin C serum! I used this Vitamin C serum during my pregnancy and it also helps prevent and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. So if you don’t want Botox or can’t get it during pregnancy, this is a great natural option.
I also always use products for my breakouts since I have acne-prone skin. I love this anti-blemish cream!! I use this when I’m breaking out and it works amazing. I love that it’s all natural, so it’s an amazing product to use while pregnant, because the ingredients are safe for the baby. I still use it after having Kennedy and it helps reduce my breakouts. I will only use this on specific breakout areas when I need it. But if I’m PMSing (when I tend to get hormonal acne), I will start putting this on all over my face, neck and chest every night and morning.
I then will put on a thicker moisturizer than what I use in the morning. I LOVVEE this anti-aging moisturizer and also have been loving this one as well. My skin is combination dry/oily, so this makes my skin really soft and gives it lots of moisture without making it oily. I love the feeling and my skin has started to look really soft and amazing.
Special Skin Treatments:
Below is what I add to my routine throughout the week when I want to use a mask or do a treatment. I have been loving masks, microdermabrasion treatments, exfoliators, and some skin tech gadgets as well!
I have the GloPRO Beauty Bioscience roller and it works amazing! I use the roller at night after I wash my face about 3x a week. I also have the body roller, eye roller and the lip roller and those really do work. I notice my lips look plumper the next morning and my eye area is smoother/ tighter.
I use that and then the other days I will use a mask such as these ones I have and love them all: The GlamGlow Supermud Clearing Treatment Mask and the TULA Kefir Ultimate Recovery Mask. I love to use the clay mask when I’m breaking out. I notice it helps with drying up my pimples, and reducing the inflammation and redness. It has charcoal and K17-CLay which helps lift dirt and impurities, excess oil, bacteria and toxins from the skin. When I want my skin to look super glowy, have even skin tone, and be super moisturized for photos or an event the next day, I always will use the the Kefir mask. It is supposed to help heal, soothe, and nourish dry and damaged skin. It is full of probiotics and vitamin C! This mask is a 10 minute mask that you wipe off with a tissue, or you can rub it into your skin after and sleep with it on. I usually will just rub it into my skin after 10 minutes and sleep with it on for better results. I also love this probiotic exfoliating treatment mask. This mask is great for ALL skin types, and is made with clay and tiny beads to help exfoliate as well. After trying tons of face masks, those 3 are my favorites!
I also used the Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel wipes and they worked SOO good! I ran out last week and haven’t had a chance to go buy some more. I would use these some nights and my skin looked amazing the next day, and my foundation makeup looked so smooth. If you are trying to prep your skin for an upcoming wedding or special event, I definitely recommend these!!
What I am currently doing for anti-aging:
I am 28 years old, and will be turning 29 in September!! OMG that hurts my eyes to type and see that. But I honestly feel like age is just a number. It sound corny, but it really is so true!!! I have known people who are in their 40s but look like their in their late 50s. Then I know people who are in their mid 60s but look like they are in their 40s! For example, my mom won’t let me tell you her age, but she is in her 60s. She honestly looks like she is in her 40s!! She definitely doesn’t even look like a grandma. She has always taken great care of her skin and from an early age has used skincare products and has always had a routine. She is the one who taught me form a very early age to love skincare products and use them everyday religiously. SHe also has never missed a day of washing off her makeup. She has taken care of her skin since her early 20s, and the results are showing! So I think, in addition to genetics, having a great skincare routine, investing in quality products, taking the time to incorporate this into your daily routine, exercise, drinking lots of water, and wearing sunscreen everyday will help you look forever young!
I use a retinol cream only twice a week all over my face. You can use it everyday, but I notice my skin gets really red and dried out if I do it all the time. I have noticed a huge difference in the appearance of wrinkles since using this. A retinol also helps prevent future wrinkles from appearing. As I mentioned above, a great alternative is the Vitamin C serum, especially since you can’t use a retinol while pregnant.
I also have been using serums which has helped make my skin look glowy and more youthful within a few days of starting to use them!
I also use an eye cream around my eyes now! I have always loved Shiseido’s eye cream and find they work amazing. They don’t cause any eye irritation and help with reducing and prevent fine lines around the eyes. If you are in your mid-late twenties, I think it’s a great time to invest in a good eye cream.
Things I do to get my skin looking good from the inside:
I drink TONS of water throughout the day! I have a tumbler cup that keeps my water cold and I squeeze a wedge of lemon in it each time I fill it up. I will drink 1.5 of those by noon, and then 2 more the rest of the day. I’ve noticed when I drink a lot of water throughout the day, my skin will start clearing up and look less red. It will also look more glowy and not so dull. The lemon helps flush out toxins from your body and is great for your digestive system. I also started drinking a lot of water all throughout the day when I was trying to lose my baby weight. Sometimes your body will signal to your brain that your hungry, when really you are dehydrated. So i always will drink a small glass of water while I’m making lunch and dinner to prevent overeating.
I lovveee sweets and treats! I definitely have a sweet tooth, and my main weakness is ice cream and chocolate chip cookies (homemade of course 😉 ). But as much as I love those two things and I do have them a couple times a week, I try my best to not have them everyday to prevent breakouts. Sugar definitely makes my skin inflamed and will experience more breakouts. So I limit my sweet tooth indulgences to only a couple times a week.
I keep my silk pillow case clean and will put a clean pillowcase on every 2-3 days. With build up from your hair products, oil and just skin flaking off while you sleep, that all can get pressed into your skin while you sleep. So I try to keep a freshly washed pillow case on!
I also try not to touch my face unless my hands are clean, and I also make sure my brushes are cleaned once a week!! If I travel, I put them in a case like this one to make sure they don’t get dirty or bacteria on them.
I hope you guys found this skincare post helpful and learned more about different products I use for my skin!
