Our Favorite Workout Attire + My 2nd Trimester Pregnancy Fitness and Diet!
Today’s post is in collaboration with Jockey, and Alex and I are sharing some of our favorite workout and athleisure wear from them! I’m also sharing what my pregnancy fitness routine looks like now that I’m in the 2nd trimester and what I eat in a day!
Alex’s: Tee: Jockey Slim Fit Cotton Stretch Crew Neck – 2 Pack | Shorts: Jockey Woven Short with Mesh Panel| // My: Sweater: Jockey Retro Stripe Hoodie| Workout Pants: Jockey Mesh Ankle Legging| Sports Bra: Jockey Retro Stripe Bralette
Being active and being healthy is a big part of my life, and since being married to Alex it has rubbed off on him. He has always said one of the things he loves most about me is how I take care of my health and how I make being active a priority in my life. One of our first “dates” even was having Alex join me in a Barre class! He even admits I kicked his butt in that class 😉 We both enjoy staying active now as a couple and we both also love comfy athleisure wear. Who says guys can’t jump on the athleisure wear trend!?
We love getting our activewear and clothing essentials from Jockey because of the quality and amazing comfort they provide. Alex loves their crew neck white t-shirts for working out and just his staple athleisure wear look he wears all the time. The Jockey Crew Cut tees are ultra soft, thick and has a stretch fabric that moves with you. The slim fit lends to comfortable layering and a modern look. Alex is also a fan of their workout shorts such as the Woven Short with Mesh Panel. The Jockey Woven Short features ultra-lightweight fabric and mesh side panels for breathable comfort. These men’s workout shorts feature an elastic waistband with an adjustable drawcord and mesh pockets for ventilated storage at the gym or on the weekend! He loves that they are the perfect length and can be worn around the house, going out, or while working out! They are also at a great price point and amazing quality!
I love all the women’s workout attire from Jockey such as their leggings, sports bras, and hoodies! These stretch mesh leggings are so cute and I love the mesh detail at the ankles. The mesh and moisture wicking combine to keep me dry and cool as I workout or when I’m running around after my toddler! I also love how it has a hidden pocket in the waistband for my keys or anything else. I love throwing on my Retro Stripe Hoodie with my workout leggings or when I’m just hanging out at home. It is soo incredibly soft and I love the v-neck in the front. It is loose and wider in the front, so it works great with my 21 week baby bump! I love how I can wear it even after my pregnancy as well. It also comes in this fun floral print that is perfect for Spring!
My New Year’s Resolutions are pretty much always the same every year, but this year they have a whole new meaning for me. I’m aiming to be committed to eating healthy and staying active for not only myself, but the health of my baby as well. I notice I have much more energy to keep up with my 2 year old Kennedy all day when I’m not eating junk food and sugar. I have been tracking what I eat everyday in the My Fitness Pal App to make sure I’m getting enough protein for the baby, and not going over the recommended calorie intake I need for the 2nd trimester. I was in labor with Kennedy for two days straight, and was pushing for three hours until she finally came. It was physically exhausting and took a huge toll on my body. I’m hoping this birth will not be as hard since I have been maintaining healthier habits this time around.
For my pregnancy fitness routine, I haven’t been as consistent as I would’ve liked. From the moment I found I was pregnant, I made it a GOAL to do a workout 5 times a week. I ended up being super sick the 1st trimester and then catching lots of colds, food poisoning, and the stomach flu literally every other week, right after the other. I didn’t have the energy to maintain what I was doing before and I did notice I felt worse because of it. Since feeling much better, I have been doing workouts three times a week. Setting small goals for myself now is what I think is best to get more successful results. I switch off between doing my ProForm Studio Bike, floor workouts, arm weights, and long walks with Kennedy. I also have been stretching and that has made my body and mind feel so much better. So I hope this has helped any mamas out there that need some motivation to get their body moving for themselves and their baby!
As far as nutrition, I have maintained an overall healthy diet all throughout this pregnancy. I haven’t really changed what I ate before I got pregnant, besides adding more calorie intake each day to 300-400 more and upping my protein. I have been getting my required protein each day by drinking a shake with this pregnancy safe protein powder. This is the one my doctor highly recommended and it’s the safest one for mom and the baby. For breakfast, I always have a piece of whole wheat toast such as Dave’s Killer Bread with a small amount of butter or peanut butter, honey, sliced bananas and a sprinkle of chia seeds. Then I make my oatmeal Flax Seed from Trader Joe’s almost every single morning as well! The only time I vary from that is if I have Kodiak pancakes or an acai bowl- which I make about 1-2 times during the week. That is what I also ate pre-pregnancy as well. I’m usually always starving around 10:30am, so I have a mid-morning snack. If I’m home still I will quickly make my protein shake. Which is almond milk, 1 scoop of the protein powder, 1 tsp of chia seeds, 1 tbsp honey, ¼ cup rolled oats, and 1 frozen banana. If I’m out with Kennedy I will almost always have a bar in my purse to eat such as the GoMacro bars. For lunch, I almost always make something at home. I love the Trader Joe’s pre-made salads and have been obsessed with the Lemon Chicken and Arugula Salad with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I also love the orzo pasta from TJ’s to have on the side. If I’m in a big rush to eat I will have the guilt-free mac n cheese from TJ’s or some pita bite crackers with hummus. When Kennedy wakes up from her nap in the afternoon, we usually split an apple and dip it in peanut butter or have a bowl of fruit! For dinner it varies everyday, but we usually eat at home for the most part. I always try to have another form of protein such as a steak, chicken or salmon with some healthy sides! I also try to keep desserts to only the weekends, but will never turn down a chocolate chip cookie! My biggest preggo craving is frozen chocolate chip cookies!!!
I think everything in moderation is key! I still enjoy my ice cream, In & Out and Cick Fil a at least once a week! Everything I mentioned above isn’t of course everything I eat in a day, it will vary with what we are doing that day or what I have in the fridge. But I think you get the gist of what I tend to stick to with my diet this pregnancy. If you have any questions, feel free to comment or email me, I would love to hear from you!
